Fallon’s Molly Moser has lived life to its fullest as both a musician and journalist.
With her success as a reporter and now as public information officer for a state agency, Moser has now channeled her hard work and desire as a singer and will be one of the headliners at this weekend’s 40th annual Fallon Cantaloupe Festival.
The stage lights will shine for Moser, who grew up in Fallon. She says her passion for writing and storytelling shines through in her work including music, and she will be a storyteller with a guitar.
“It's exhilarating. I'm nervous, but I'm really excited. Never would I have thought growing up in Fallon,” Moser said of the excitement of performing on the festival’s main stage. “I always went to the cantaloupe festivals as a kid. You know, and never would I have thought that I was going to play my music at my hometown and at one of the biggest festivals in the region. I'm excited, but I'm mostly excited and nervous. I'd like to connect with the audience. I like to put on a good show. I'd like to sing for people.”
Writing for newspapers in Carson City and Fallon and delivering news and traffic reports on a Reno radio station, Moser developed a solid storytelling technique that now shows in her music.
Moser said it gives her much comfort knowing she’ll be singing in Fallon, seeing people she knows and reconnecting with people. Instead of performing with a band, Moser will be solo this year — just her and her guitar.
“I’m playing a good mix of the ‘90s, some oldies, some classics as well,” Moser said, adding she’ll be playing her own music she wrote. “I had the honor to play at Maine Street Cafe a couple of weeks ago and got some really good feedback on that. So, I'm excited to share this after doing some small gigs here and there, which is kind of like a trial period for me, testing out my set list.”
Moser, like many performers, has found her success in writing and playing music.
“I want to balance it with my career. I want to balance it with writing creativity, communications — and it's funny — music is like another way, another form of communications. You're out there. You're loud, you're speaking to the public, you're presenting your creative being a whole other way. So, I appreciate that. I really do. I enjoy it.”
Other performers will take the stage for the three-day festival.
Patrice (Luciano), a native Nevadan and self-taught musician, has performed at various local venues and events, including national exposure on The Cowboy Channel. She has opened for artists such as Riley Green and Lindsay Ell.
According to her bio, “she branched out into the Rock/ Country scene 5 years ago singing with several cover bands locally. With dreams of breaking into the music industry this vivacious, spunky and charismatic vocalist will keep you very entertained.”
Her music roots developed when a rock band took her under their wings. As a young girl, Luciano appreciated the music of Pink Floyd and other similar sounds from different rock bands. As a performer, she has belted out songs from Pat Benatar to Heart.
“I love country music,” she said. “Country is evolving from country rock to traditional country.”
THE FLOYD
The Floyd is an award-winning regional touring Pink Floyd tribute band formed in 2012.
This six-piece group is known for their tremendous musicality, chemistry, and attention to detail in recreating Pink Floyd’s most cherished recordings, all live, with spectacular concert lighting and pristine audio and presented with a quadraphonic surround twist.
JARED HOVIS
Singer-songwriter Jared Hovis is cutting a name for himself throughout Nashville’s country music scene.
The Northern California native grew up in the rural town of Burney. At a young age Hovis fell in love with country music, which he gives credit to his grandfather. After attending Shasta College in Redding, California, Hovis had the chance to meet fellow musician Jon Pardi who encouraged him to pursue his dream of becoming a country music artist.
Hovis left his construction job, loaded up his pickup and headed for the neon lights of Nashville. Hovis still credits Pardi to this day for having a big influence on his career.
Since relocating to Tennessee Hovis has released two singles. In his song “Comin’ Over Sober” you get a feel for his raw emotion and truth as a songwriter. Whereas his song “Bad Ole Days” his love of ‘90s honky tonk rhythms is apparent. Hovis credits many of the “industry greats” such as George Strait, Merle Haggard, Daryle Singletary and Keith Whitley for having an influence on his sound.
JAKE JACOBSON
With roots in Reno and upbringing in a Northern California ranching town of 2,000, Jacobson finds himself drawn to the stories and lifestyles of the unique characters intersecting his life. And those are precisely the people and places that jump from the speakers on his latest work, the four-song EP Reno.
Jacobson is far from a tribute act. Much like his heroes before him (artists like Keith Whitley, Randy Travis, and Cody Johnson), he finds inspiration in the people and places that make his perspective unique.

Her debut album, Timekeepers Dream, was born in Rathdrum, Idaho, where producer Cris Lucas helped shape her raw talent into a bold, eclectic sound.
Her soulful sound and electric stage presence make this a performance you won’t want to miss.

MICHELLE LAMBERT
Michelle Lambert is the kind of electric performer whose deep talent reveals itself in sly, knowing bursts.
Whether it’s goosing the expectation of a breezy pop-country tune with a confident hip-hop-flavored flow, an aching desire slipping out from between the lyrics of a ballad, or the way Michelle dominates every inch of the stage before wielding her violin in classic rock goddess mode.
Lambert is a genre-defying 21st century talent with a lot on her mind! On stage she is backed by a slamming rhythm-driving acoustic guitar, heavily influenced by Ed Sheeran.
LARRY WILSON
