The Fourth of July is right around the corner, and communities across Southern Oregon and Northern California are preparing for a festive weekend full of parades, fireworks, food, and family fun. Here’s a look at what’s happening around the region:
Ashland
Ashland is bringing back its beloved traditions. The day starts at 7:30 a.m. with a pancake breakfast hosted by the Elks Lodge, coinciding with the kickoff of the annual Fourth of July Run. This year, the city’s iconic parade moves to the morning, starting at 9:30 a.m. from Triangle Park. You might even see the NBC5 crew make an appearance. Afterward, head to the plaza and Lithia Park for live music and family-friendly activities.
Central Point
The celebration begins early with a Boy Scout pancake breakfast at the Grange Hall at 7 a.m., followed by the Run for Freedom at 7:30 a.m. The parade rolls down Pine Street at 9:30 a.m., and the Freedom Fest continues at Pfaff Park from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with vendors, live music, and kids’ activities.
Later that evening, BoomFest returns to The Expo. Gates open at 7:00 p.m. for this free fireworks show, which begins around 9:50. The Community Firework Zone will also be open from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m., allowing attendees to light legal fireworks under the supervision of Jackson County Fire District 3. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, and legal fireworks only.
Jacksonville
Jacksonville will host Mayor Bowen’s annual picnic from noon to 3:00 p.m. on the City Hall lawn. Visitors can enjoy a free hot dog meal and celebrate with the community.
Eagle Point
Eagle Point’s events start with a fun run and 5K at 8:00 a.m., followed by vendor booths on Main Street at 9:00 a.m. The parade begins at 11:00 a.m., preceded by the national anthem. After the parade, festivities move to Bob Moore Park for live music. The high school stadium opens at 6:00 p.m. for fireworks at dusk.
Grants Pass
The third annual Food Truck Festival will take place at Reinhart Volunteer Park from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m., featuring live music, bounce houses, face painting, performances, and plenty of food trucks. A classic car show kicks off earlier in the day at 11:00 a.m. The event also doubles as a food drive for the Josephine County Food Bank, so attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items.
It’s also the final weekend of summer horse racing at the Grants Pass Downs. Races are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, with post time at 1 p.m. Fall racing will resume on September 7.
Klamath County
Klamath Falls will host its Fourth of July parade at 10:00 a.m. along Main Street, ending at Veterans Park. Malin’s parade begins at 11:00 a.m., followed by a car show at noon at the Community Park. Chiloquin’s downtown parade starts at noon.
Lake of the Woods is taking a different approach this year by replacing its fireworks with a laser light show. The change comes after the homeowners association that normally hosts the fireworks canceled due to “insurmountable obstacles.” The resort will host a barbecue with live music from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., followed by the laser show after dark.
Meanwhile, Diamond Lake will continue with its traditional fireworks show but it will be on Saturday this year, scheduled for around 10:00 p.m.
Coastal Celebrations
The Port Orford Jubilee kicks off Friday with a Rotary pancake breakfast at 8:00 a.m., followed by a paddle parade from the Pinehurst boat launch. The main parade along Highway 101 begins at 11:00 a.m. A free community barbecue runs from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., and fireworks at dusk are provided by the volunteer fire department. A full schedule is available at PortOrfordJubilee.org.
In Gold Beach, the fireworks show begins at 10:00 p.m. on the Fourth.
Coos Bay starts the celebration early on July 3 with “Blast on the Bay,” a 20-minute fireworks display hosted by the Coquille Casino Resort. On the Fourth, the city will hold its own fireworks display at dusk.
No matter where you are in the region, there’s something festive to enjoy this Fourth of July. Have a fun and safe holiday!
