Red Bluff, CA (March 25, 2025) – One person sustained injuries following a vehicle collision early Monday morning on the Interstate 5 Freeway near Wilcox Rd in the Red Bluff area, according to a report from the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:10 a.m. on March 24. CHP officials responded to the scene on the northbound side of I-5, where at least one vehicle had been involved in a crash near the Wilcox Rd exit. Emergency medical teams arrived shortly after and confirmed that one individual suffered injuries in the collision. The injured party was transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Authorities have not released details about the cause of the crash, the type of vehicles involved, or the current condition of the injured individual. Traffic in the area was temporarily impacted as law enforcement secured the scene and began their investigation.

The incident remains under review by the California Highway Patrol.

Red Bluff, Fresno and Sacramento made the list of cities with the most hours of sunshine in the United States. Redding, which some in the North State boast is California's sunniest city, did not make the cut.

Arizona has the most hours of sunshine, and is home to four of the 10 most sunny U. S. cities, according to the World Meteorological Organization.

At number one in the U.S., Yuma is also the sunniest city in the world, with more than 4,000 hours of sunshine per year.

Number seven on the top 10 list is Sacramento. It's the sunniest city in California, with an average of 3,607.8 hours of sunshine per year.

The state's capitol city is followed closely by Fresno, with 3,564.2 hours, and by Red Bluff with 3,542.9 hours.

The National Weather Service measures "clear" (sunny) days, not hours of sun, per year, but the agency's data agrees Red Bluff, about 30 miles south of Redding, is sunnier.

Redding receives on average 172 days of sun annually, weather service meteorologist Sara Purdue said. That doesn't beat Red Bluff's achy-bakey average of 178 days.

Redding's sunniest months are July and August, with an average 25 days of sun each, she said, while Red Bluff averages 27 sunny days during its sunniest month, July.

The sun shines an average of 188 days per year on Sacramento. July is the state capital's sunniest month, with 27 days of sun.
