You’ll be able to close your eyes and picture yourself at an Eagles concert on Saturday when Life In The Fast Lane comes to town. The Reno band brings the songs of the Eagles to Taste of Downtown on Saturday on the south stage.
Rick Ricketts, one of the founding members and driving forces of the band, said they are excited to bring their show back to Carson City. Ricketts said the music is a timeless classic that fans of the Eagles will enjoy, but younger fans enjoy it just as much.
“We are very excited to bring the Eagles experience to Carson City,” he said. “The band is known for providing an Eagles experience that is second to none. If you haven’t seen the Eagles live, we’re the next best thing.”
Life In The Fast Lane got its start in 1993 and have played hundreds of shows over the last 30-plus years to many different crowds. They’ve played at the largest music festival in the USA at Summerfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and the band has toured from coast to coast, including shows this year that will take them all the way to Portland, Maine.
Ricketts said what really sets the band apart is the band’s authenticity.
“We play them note-for-note,” he said. “With the vocal arrangements and everything, we play the Eagles as they played. People have billed us as the No. 1 tribute to the Eagles.”
THE BANDMEMBERS
The band consists of five members, with three of them who have been there pretty much since its inception, Ricketts said. Just like the Eagles, the band shares lead singers and everyone contributes to vocals because harmonies are a big part of the experience.
Ricketts said their newest member of the band, Joe Mosier, has an impressive five-octave vocal range and was trained in opera, but he also sings classic rock.
“He’s an incredible singer,” Ricketts said. “If you close your eyes, you’ll think it’s Don Henley himself. He channels Henley’s distinct tone in ‘Hotel California.’”
Scott Parsons plays bass and performs the vocals for Glenn Frey’s songs.
“His voice is the perfect match for Glenn Frey’s unmistakable sound,” Ricketts said. “One of the standout moments of our shows are songs like ‘Already Gone’ and ‘New Kid in Town.’”
John Polizzi plays lead guitar and sings.
“He performs and incredible rendition of ‘Take It To The Limit’ that sounds just like Randy Meisner,” Ricketts said.
Ricketts plays lead guitar and does background vocals. He is known for recreating the Eagles’ signature riffs and solos. He and Polizzi share complex guitar solos to the harmonies and their performances are nothing short of spectacular, Ricketts said.
David Lee plays drums and shares background vocals. Ricketts said he is a rock-solid drummer and percussionist with electrifying rhythms and precise grooves. He brings a dependable rhythm to the show and undeniable energy.
SONGS TO PLAY
With many songs in the discography, the tribute’s setlist consists of songs from the Eagles’ Greatest Hits albums, volumes 1 and 2. They also include some of the solo artists top songs, such as “Life’s been Good,” by Joe Walsh and “Boys of Summer” by Don Henley. They do a medley of a handful of solo songs that they enjoy playing.
“We cover all of the hits and then we do some of the solo artist’s material as well,” Ricketts said.
Ricketts said he really enjoys playing the Eagles’ music and he appreciates the band’s writing, music and the vocal harmonies. He said it’s no surprise with the Eagles’ popularity, noting that their “Greatest Hits” album is the best-selling album of all time, passing Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” in 2018.
“As far as performing their music, it’s second to none,” Ricketts said. “They were great writers. I enjoy just performing the music as authentically as possible and getting feedback and watching the audience in awe of what we do.”
He and the band will be excited to share all that and hope everyone enjoys themselves at Taste of Downtown.
“We always deliver a memorable experience,” he said. “We are professional musicians, and we bring decades of live music experience.”
