Due to weather conditions, NV Energy says a PSOM is currently underway in Genoa and Virginia City Highlands.
The outage began at approximately 10:15 a.m. and may last until Thursday, November 14, at around 9 a.m. Approximately 700 customers are currently affected by this proactive de-energization.
PSOMs are used to help prevent wildfires when areas have extreme weather forecasted, as a preventative action.
The timeframe includes the duration of the forecasted weather event and the time needed for NV Energy crews to inspect lines and equipment for damage, vegetation or debris before they can safely restore power.
For more information including preparedness information and maps, visit the PSOM page on NV Energy's website.
The cause of another large outage remains under investigation after nearly 3,600 NV Energy customers lost power early Wednesday afternoon.
Most of the 16 outages across Washoe County started after noon.
Meanwhile, Liberty Utilities may implement a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) for Sierra Brooks and Loyalton Customers, due to extreme weather conditions.
Customers are encouraged to plan for the possibility of an extended power shutoff that could begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 13, and last more than 24 hours.
